All Buyers and Sellers must be registered to use Mobadoo. Just click on the Register
button on the top right of the page and you will be taken to the Registration page.
At the end of Registration you are required to Activate your account. To Activate
your account you must text MOBAD to 83080. This will be charged at 1 SMS Message
charged at standard network rate. This only has to be done once in the lifetime
of your Mobadoo account and will activate you for every section of the site. |
|
|
|
The reason for account activation via text message is for safety and security. You
have to text back to confirm that the mobile number does belong to the registered
user. This is to stop the wrong person being charged for the advertising. As a Buyer
you must register so that your details can be passed on to the Seller. The Activation
will ensure that your details are correct and that you are a genuinely interested
buyer. These measures are in place to prevent false and unnecessary enquiries being
charged to the seller. |
|
|
|
Buyers have to click the I’m Interested button when they are interested in an item
for sale. This is because of the Mobile Phone Reverse-Billing procedure. The Reverse-Billing
procedure works so that once a buyer clicks I’m Interested, the details of the seller
will then be passed to the buyer and vice versa. The system is set up like this
as sellers pay per enquiry, therefore each time buyers click I’m Interested this
is classed as an enquiry and the seller will be charged. |
|
|
|
Mobadoo is free for buyers. |
|
|
|
Mobadoo has a unique Buying and Selling Model. Mobadoo works on a pay-per-enquiry
basis, whereby the advertiser only pays when the interested party clicks ‘I’m Interested’.
This means no upfront advertising costs so you have nothing to lose. The advertiser
pays for these enquiries through their mobile phone account. So when a user clicks
‘I’m Interested’ the amount per-enquiry is taken from the advertisers mobile phone
account. The amount per-enquiry is dependant on the rate card. Motors and Property
have a set rate that is not dependant on the price of the item for sale. The cost
of advertising on the other catalogues on Mobadoo depends on how much that item
is being sold for. Because of the unique Reverse-Billing procedure both buyers and
sellers have to be registered and activate their account with one SMS text message.
Sellers have to register and activate so that they can monitor their account and
so that we ensure that the mobile phone number registered is theirs. Buyers have
to be registered to prevent false enquiries. We can therefore help to ensure that
only genuine buyers click ‘I’m Interested’. If anyone is found to be misusing the
system their account will be terminated and they will never be able to register
that mobile number with us again. The mobile phone authentication procedure is much
safer then registration via email, that other advertising platforms use. |

Tips for keeping safe when buying and selling: |
|
- Always keep your logbook in a safe place when selling your car. Never hand it
over until the car has been sold. If a thief steels your car having the logbook
will make it easier for them to sell it on. Check the DVLA website for more details. |
|
- View the vehicle address on the registration documentation and check that it corresponds
with the sellers ID |
|
- Never buy a vehicle without registration documents under any circumstances even
if the seller says they have been sent to the DVLA for changes |
|
- Check the Vehicle Registration number (VIN) corresponds with the number on the
registration document. This can normally be found under the bonnet on a metal plate |
|
- If the VIN plate has been removed ask why. |
|
- Ensure you get a landline number - not just a mobile number |
|
- Check the locks on the car and make sure they do not differ (thieves often change
the locks if they are damaged) |
|
- Check the mileage reading corresponds with the service history and past owners |
|
- Check if the vehicle has been seriously damaged, recorded as stolen, or is the
subject to outstanding finance.
AA Car Check |
|
- Always be completely sure before you buy or sell - If you are unsure about anything
walk away. |
|
- Always inform the DVLA of any changes to the vehicle ownership |

Buying from a dealer is much safer then it used to be. Dealers are bound by the
Sale of Goods Act, stating that goods should meet a certain standard. Reputable
dealers should be members of a trade association such as Retail Motor Industry Federation.
(Look out for signs). Most Dealers provide a warranty and most offer part exchanges,
finance and insurance arrangements.
There are not as many risks involved with buying from a dealer, although you should
still be careful make checks such as the VIN number and the mileage in the logbook.
Again you can never be too careful.
Make sure you still have your wits about you and are not talked into buying something
you will regret later. Set realistic budgets before you view the vehicle and don’t
be too quick to take a low part exchange value as your vehicle may be worth a lot
more then they are offering. |
|
|
|
Buying privately is normally cheaper then buying through a trader. This is because
private sellers have no overheads such as legal costs, warranty and preparation
of the vehicle. As long as you are sensible this should be relatively straight forward,
although you should always be extra careful and bear in mind the following: |
|
- You won’t get a warranty |
|
- Legally you have less comeback privately then with a trader. Cars advertised in
a private sale must be “as described” but that's about it as far as legal obligations
go. So be extra careful when checking over your vehicle (See tips below) |
|
- A dealer is required to make certain checks by law, a private seller is not. |
|
As long as you are careful and follow the tips provided you should not have any
problems when buying privately. |
|
|
Try to avoid meeting sellers anywhere other then their address. Be aware that the
car could be stolen along with the papers, so be very wary if they put you off of
coming to their address to pick up the car. Also be aware that just because they
are parked near or outside an address that the car belongs to them. Still ask for
ID and keep a watchful eye to see if they do in fact enter that property. Always
try and take a friend or family member with you when meeting a seller and it is
advisable not to take cash in case the sale is not genuine.
Unfortunately some thieves and scammers are very clever and have come up with more
and more sophisticated techniques, although you should always follow the safety
and security procedures we have suggested. Never hand money over until you have
made necessary steps to help ensure the seller is genuine. |
|
|
|
Make sure you have relevant insurance when test driving. Also be sure that a friend
or family member knows where you are to protect your personal safety. |
|
|
There are a number of ways to pay for your vehicle:
Cash: If you are paying cash make sure that you do not hand this
over until you are in the process of filling out the vehicle registration documentation.
Never hand cash over before you go on a test drive and NEVER hand cash over until
it is safe to do so. It is inadvisable to take cash to a viewing. There are many
thieves who do not have a car for sale at all and will steal your money. Only pay
once you have made all the necessary checks noted above.
Cheque: If you are paying by cheque you always run a risk. Make
sure you write a receipt stating the buyer and sellers details and get it signed
by both parties. Make sure you have as much information about the seller as possible
and have asked for ID before writing a cheque and make you are writing the cheque
to the real owner of the car. Be very wary if you are asked to write a cheque out
to someone with a different name to the car registration details and logbook as
these could be stolen. Never ever hand over blank cheques. Provide the seller with
your ID and details also. Electronic Transfer:
Electronic transfer (such as paypal) allows the transfer of funds
online. It can take a few days, although is one of the safest methods of payment.
Again always be sure to have details of the Seller and identification. Try and be
sure that is definitely their account.
NOTE: Ask the seller for ID with an address and a landline telephone
number. Therefore, if something goes wrong with the sale you can easily find them.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that when you are outside a house that the person
lives there. This may not be the case. If the buyer is reluctant to show ID be very
wary of continuing with the sale.
Lastly, Always write a receipt stating the buyer and sellers details and get it
signed by both parties. |
|
|
NEVER use a money transferring system such as western union. Your money cannot always
be traced. If you are asked to use western union to transfer the money for no apparent
reason refuse to do so and if at any time you feel as if you are becoming the victim
of a scam report this to your local police station.
Remember there are many car scams in operation
be very careful and always check details even if the buyer looks trustworthy. Always
follow a safe payment method and don’t be embarrassed about being vigilant, you
will be more embarrassed if you are the victim of a scam.
If anyone contacts you claiming to be calling from Mobadoo.com, do not pass any
of your personal details or your password to them. In the unlikely event that we
will call you we will never ask for your bank details over the phone. Also never
pass bank or personal details in an email to us or any other party. At Mobadoo we
do not process payment, although we do recommend that you use a safe payment method
such as
Paypal.
